Office chair casters for different floor types
Ergonomics in the office are playing an increasingly important role in society. This also applies to office chairs. Adjustability of the seat height, armrests and seat area is essential for ergonomic office chairs. It is vital that the right office chair casters are used, because the wrong casters will have a negative effect on health, the floor and on the chair itself.
Casters for ergonomic office chairs must be chosen to suit the type of flooring on which they are to be used. As with all casters the principle applies here too: On soft floors, use hard wheels and on hard floors, use soft wheels. Accordingly, soft wheels have a harder tread, which is ideal for carpets, for example. If the casters used on carpets are too soft, the casters may start to pick up lint and fibers, which eventually renders them difficult to move. Especially on carpet, where the rolling resistance is especially high, it is important to avoid this. However, if hard wheels are used on hard floors, they can cause scratches.
Therefore, appropriate wheels with softer tread are used on hard floors. These minimize the wear on the floor and at the same time reduce the noise they make during operation. For this purpose, we developed a particularly floor-friendly solution: TENTEprene, a thermoplastic rubber that runs easily and is non-marking. It is easy to distinguish between hard-floor and soft-floor wheels: soft wheels are usually two-colored, hard wheels are single-colored.
